1987 Porsche 944S

My Daily Driver

This is the car I purchased after my '85 944 was wrecked. While that was a solid little car and would have served me well, I'm glad I got the S. The post-85½ interior for the 944 series is really quite refined when compared to the earlier design, and I think it makes for a wonderfully well-appointed grand touring car.

Above are some of the first pictures I got to take of the car. The setting is just in front of my mechanic's shop in Framingham, Massachusetts. Regretably it has spent a lot of time there in its first year, as I'll explain elsewhere.

This second set of photos was taken in May of '98, just before my first trip to Watkin's Glen. I'm hoping to take a another run of photographs when the leaves are turning this Fall.

I will probably try to pick up another vehicle to use when it snows. But in general, so long as there isn't already snow (and salt) on the road, I see no reason not to use this car year 'round. With appropriate tires, both of my 944's have responded to adverse weather in a very respectable and reliable manner. In fact, if I'm lucky I'll be able to find something like a GMC Jimmy, Ford Bronco, or Chevy Blazer that can be the foul weather driver and tow vehicle...

So hopefully I'll have the 944S back by late September (details here). Maybe I can make it to another DE event, though it seems a little foolhardy to risk something else going wrong now that I have a house to pour money into. But at least I could finally see some of the folks in my home region of the PCA, the Northeast.
