In other words, what do I do when I'm not brooding obsessively over the future of our nation in these degenerate times? Or obsessively hoarding food and materiel to prepare for when society collapses on January 1st, 2000? Or compulsively fashioning aluminum foil hats to block the mind control beams coming down from the CIA's orbiting satellites?
Oh.
Good question. I like to rollerblade, and have been known to spend the day in Manhattan's Central Park just wandering around. Actually, I do that with or without skates. And one of my favorite things to do while so engaged, or really while doing anything in New York, is to watch the people around me. Frequently, you get a slice of life that is just screamingly funny. And when it isn't amusing, it can almost always be considered grist for the mill whenever I next sit down and start writing.
I also like to drive. A lot. Fast or slow isn't such a big deal, so long as nobody's in my way. I've discovered that I really do like cars a lot, and I hope to have more than just the one by the end of next year - and to be doing more work on them myself. Find out more about this facet over here.
I like to cook quite a bit, although cleaning up afterwards leaves a lot to be desired -- especially when you don't have a dishwasher so you can skip the fussy details like flatware. It's a bit hard trying to cook in a typical Manhattan kitchen, though, and there isn't room for counterspace let alone a dishwasher. And perhaps the biggest reason, there simply hasn't been anyone to cook for. If I get together with friends, it's usually dinner at some restaurant - which is great, but it means I get more and more rusty. Odd for a batchelor to list cooking as a fun activity? Maybe, but there you have it - done well it's a wonderful thing to be doing. Done poorly, why bother?
